I. Board of Directors |
| |
A. The Board of Directors shall consist of five members who shall have full power to manage and conduct the affairs and finances of The California Futurity. Members of the Board will serve until they notify the Board in writing that they no longer wish to serve, or are removed by a majority vote of the Board Members and will serve without compensation. Except as provided by law, vacancies on the Board, whether through resignation, death, removal, or otherwise shall be filled by a majority vote of the remaining Board members within six months of the occurrence of the vacancy. Members may be removed from the Board by a majority vote only. The Board of Directors shall elect a chairman who will chair meetings and keep other Board Members and committee members informed on the business of The Futurity. The Board shall meet at least twice per year, or as often as is deemed necessary to properly conduct the affairs of The Futurity; however, any changes in the rules and regulations of The California Futurity can only be implemented by a unanimous vote of the Board. The Board shall establish committees as deemed necessary, to provide additional assistance to the management of The Futurity. No committee member shall receive compensation from The Futurity for such services. Membership on the Board of Directors or committees established by the Board does not preclude those members from competing in The California Futurity shows. |

B. Closing date for Nominations of unborn foals is October 31 of the year in which the foal was conceived. It is the owners responsibility to provide change of address, change of ownership, change of status (castration of colts) to The California Futurity on a timely basis. It is the owners responsibility to supply correct information on each horse renominated on the official renomination form. It is the owners responsibility to nominate/renominate horses by the closing date, whether or not the renomination forms have been received. |
B. Late renominations will be accepted through December 31 of the year in which renominations are due. Late nominations require the renomination fee plus a late fee of $50 (total of $85 per foal renominated). |
C. Deferred renominations will be accepted between January 1 and March 31 on the Official California Futurity form with a $100 deferred fee plus the renomination fee, provided the fee is received no later than March 31 (total of $135 per foal renominated). |
D. A $50 dollar fee will be charged for return checks. All fees due must be paid, including returned check fees, processing fees, late fees, deferred fees and renomination fees by March 31 or disqualification will occur without recourse. PAYING BACK FEES AFTER THIS DATE WILL NOT CURE THE DISQUALIFICATION. |
E. There are no refunds after the closing date of October 31. However, if a mare fails to produce a live foal after the foal is nominated, the fee can be applied to the next years nominations only. For The California Futurity, a foal is considered a live foal if it stands and suckles on its own and survives seventy-two (72) hours as certified in writing by a licensed veterinarian. |
V. Transfers |
A. Futurity participation may be transferred with change of ownership for a transfer fee of $15. Notification to The California Futurity for change of ownership is the responsibility of the new owner. A new California Futurity certificate will be issued to the new owner after the transfer fee is paid. |

C. All prize monies will be paid to the owner of record in The California Futurity's files. |
D.The California Futurity will have no responsibility in change of ownership disputes and will only deal with The California Futurity's
owner of record in all matters.
E. In the event of a transfer of ownership having occurred, but a timely renomination was not made by the original owner or the new owner and was not discovered until eligibility requirements were checked before the event in which the foal will be shown, an exception may be granted and the deficiency can be cured BEFORE THE SHOW by paying a penalty fee of $250 plus the $35 renomination fee prior to the yearling class, a penalty fee of $500 plus the outstanding renomination fees prior to the two-year-old class, or a penalty fee of $1000 plus the outstanding renomination fees prior to the three-year-old class. This exception can only be granted if the foal was originally nominated during the year of conception and was therefore a participant in the Futurity AND a transfer of ownership occurred. Future renomination fees must be paid to maintain eligibility for any remaining years of the Futurity. |
VI. Secondary Purse |
A. By March 1 of the year following the close of nominations, Stallion owners will receive an invitation to participate in a Secondary purse along with the number of foals nominated that were sired by their Stallion. |
B. Stallion owners have the option of contributing $50 per nominated foal sired by their Stallion to a Secondary Purse that will be awarded to the Champion and Reserve Champion three-year-olds (Colts, Geldings, Fillies) if they were sired by a participating stallion. |
C. This Secondary Purse will be divided into three sub purses according to the ratio of each sex to the overall number of three-year-olds that are entered and shown (i.e. at the close of the gate). Champion Colt, Gelding, and Filly will each receive 65% of that divided portion of the purse if they were sired by a participating stallion. Reserve Champions will each receive 35% of the Secondary Purse if they were sired by a participating stallion. For example, if out of 100 horses actually shown in the Futurity, 43 are fillies, 43% of the Secondary Purse will go to the Filly class, and if 30 are colts, 30% of the Secondary Purse will go to the Colt class and the remaining Reserve Champion will get 35% of the divided purse if they were sired by a participating stallion. |
D. Stallion fees must be received by The California Futurity no later than April 15 of the year following nominations. |
E. If the owner of the sire of the Champion or Reserve Champion in a three-year-old class did not contribute to the Secondary purse that portion of the purse which would have been awarded to that Champion or Reserve Champion will be distributed equally among all of the Top Five in that class (including the Champion or Reserve Champion) whose sire owners did contribute to the Secondary Purse. If none of the Top Five horses in a class (fillies, colts, or geldings) have sires whose owners contributed, the Secondary Purse will be added in equal portions to the Secondary Purses for each open futurity year (weanlings, yearlings, and two-year-olds) of the same sex. This addition to the Secondary Purse for that sex will be awarded to the three-year-old Futurity Champion and Reserve Champion (filly, colt, or gelding) as an addition to the Secondary Purse for that year, provided they are eligible to receive distributions from the Secondary Purse. |
VII. Alterations |
A. Colts must be castrated by December 31 of the year preceding the year in which they are to be shown as geldings. Before they can be shown as Geldings, proof of castration must be forwarded to The California Futurity. Proof is a statement from a licensed veterinarian attesting that the colt was gelded prior to December 31 of his 2 year old year. Alternately, proof can also be a photocopy of the AHA registration form showing that the horse is registered as a gelding and submitted to The California Futurity by December 31 of his two-year-old year. |
